Why This Must Be Read: This was written for the swficathon in 2006, but I didn't see it listed here in previous rec's. Honestly, pretty much everything mylittleredgirl writes is good. I picked this because it hadn't been mentioned before, and because it cleaves very well to canon in the sense of how she characterizes the different people's responses to a very close call.

And as with aj, mylittleredgirl is one of the most influential and talented of the Sparky writers. She has an unparalleled gift with their dialogue and interactions, especially with John's awkwardness around anything having to do with emotion. Her John is always goofy and unsure and aware of his own limitations and underneath it's clear in her fics that he's just smitten with Elizabeth in a wonderful way, even in this fic which is mostly about their friendship and a hint of potential lying just beneath the surface.

Needless to say, he won’t be welcome to come upstairs for a drink again.

Josh and I drove the U-Haul in last Sunday. We rolled in around 11:00 PM. It took us 13 hours, so we made pretty good time. That night we unloaded the bed and flopped into it, forsaking all else in favor of rest. Let me tell you: 13 hours of driving is tiring.

2012ad and chiefseamonkey came over on Monday and helped Josh unload the truck. I’m told we owe them booze.

We had a bit of a scare on Tuesday, when Josh couldn’t find his keys. I suspected he left them in the U-Haul when we dropped it off, but no one was answering at the truck rental facility.

Wednesday, I took Aerbax to Dr. Good-Looking for “the Snip”. I dropped him off early and picked him up late, so I only ever talked with the techs and never the doctor. Ah well. The surgery went flawlessly, and all the techs gushed how handsome Aerbax is.

So after I dropped Aerbax off, I went by the U-Haul facility. There were Josh’s keys, just like I’d thought. Coincidence that the facility is located just a few blocks down the street from the vet’s office? I think not.

Thursday was lunch at Stroud’s with Josh and my friend Laura. Mmm, best fried chicken ever. But I like the Northland location much better than the Fairway location. It’s the atmosphere. I had almost as much chicken and potatoes as I had gossip, and I was fully satisfied by the time I left.

The holiday on Friday was a long one. Josh and I went to my grandparents’ in Holt, MO, for a cook-out and swimming and fireworks and drama. It just wouldn’t be a proper family gathering without the drama. But all’s well that ends well, and the day ended well indeed. Except for the sunburn. And the chigger bites. Those I could’ve lived without.

Yesterday was errands and laundry. Not much to be said about that, other than that it’s nice to have clean clothes again.

No news about Josh’s grandmother; we can only assume she’s fine.

The little times have been filled with unpacking, organizing, and adjusting to Josh being only 7 feet away rather than 700 miles. And sweeping the floors. I’m forever sweeping the damned floors. Speaking of....

*wanders off muttering and in search of a broom*
